Project Details

The Project involved concrete repairs to all existing abutments, headstocks and piers. Replacement of the existing expansion joints, vehicle barriers and extending the width of the northern pedestrian footpath.

Alder worked closely with Gold Coast City Council and lead designers to renew the 60 year old bridge. Due to its age, retro-fitting the new structures was a challenging process.

Work Undertaken

Some of the  key components of this Project were:
  • Temporary traffic control and pedestrian diversions
  • Design and install cantilever scaffold system to allow access under the bridge
  • Demolition of existing concrete footpath and vehicle barrier
  • Fabricate new substructure elements for the extension of northern footpath
  • Retro-fit new substructure to existing bridge
  • Construct new pedestrian footpath
  • Install new VGAN vehicle barrier
  • Fabricate and install new stainless steel handrail
  • Design and install new programmable LED lighting system
  • Sandblast existing structural elements
  • Application of protective coatings to existing structural steel elements
  • Crack repairs to headstock and piers
  • Concrete patch repairs to headstock and piers
  • Application of concrete fairing coat
  • Replace existing expansion joints
