Project Details

This project was part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution ¬†(BER) scheme ¬†introduced due to the Global Financial Crisis.

Alder constructed the new Multi-purpose Hall (MPH) and Resource Building for Thiess who were appointed Construction Managers by the Labor Government.

The Multi-purpose Hall has a GFA of 687m2 and the Resource Building 595m2. Thiess demanded that the most stringent safety requirements be satisfied, which Alder excelled in complying with and did so without compromising the projects programme requirements.

Alder commenced this project in May 2010 and reached Practical Completion in October 2010, some 6 weeks ahead of our Contract Schedule.

Work Undertaken

  • The acoustic ceiling in the MPH was added due to Alder offering cost savings from other components within the design. The acoustic ply was substituted for an alternative product to achieve the same appearance
  • Both buildings are linked with covered walkways including an outdoor learning area
  • Fire services were upgraded to cover the new buildings to meet new QFRS regulations including a hydrant booster pump and shed
  • The resource building has a fully functional green room for filming and photography
  • The MPH includes a kitchen and amenities to cater for any occasion or function
  • The MPH was also extended by 75m2 compared with the original design due to cost savings and alternatives offered by Alder at Tender stage
  • The provision of security screens to all doors and windows
