Try constructing a new 469 seat Auditorium sandwiched between two existing two storey fully functioning classrooms and performing arts building, a 6 metre high retaining wall and college chapel with access in and out of the site via a single lane one way road.
Following the completion of a previous stage, Emmanuel College appointed Alder again as their preferred builder to construct, this time around, their flagship project being a state of the art Auditorium.
Alder hand selected and imported granite tiles directly from China, saving the College a large sum of money. These granite tiles were laid to the main entry space & staircase, which is located below the architecturally striking front awning. This awning provides a new covered external space that acts as a focus and gathering point for both the Auditorium and the adjacent Chapel.
One of the key challenges of this project was managing the movement of construction materials in and out of the extremely tight site. To address this, Alder utilised a tower crane that was temporarily installed in one of the lift shafts. The crane was utilised to safely and efficiently deliver and erect materials needed to construct the Auditorium’s shell and was dismantled once all acoustic wall cladding was completed. Works were completed to an exceptionally high level of quality in June 2012.
