Project Details

This project involved the construction of a new library building with separable learning areas and offices. Works also comprised of the extension of the existing Jordan building that contained kitchen facilities, a junior science laboratory, 1 GLA and a landscaped outdoor learning area.

The library is 980m2 in size and the Jordan extension added 270m2 of Gross Floor Area.

Safety was paramount and successfully managed by Alder as works included tying into existing functioning classrooms as well as constructing the Jordan building that is located immediately adjacent to the student drop off and pick up zone.

Work Undertaken

  • Elaborate system of retaining walls to lower entry area of the library
  • Large cut into sloping ground for the library site
  • Face brick exterior to match existing buildings
  • Complicated roof structures
  • Pop out reading windows and sunken floors to the library
  • Formed columns to match in with existing columns
  • Curved and sand blasted concrete seating and a terraced seating area
