Alder and St Hilda’s partner for more women in construction
Alder’s commitment to advancing women in the construction industry and promoting construction and engineering as a rewarding career path continues with their partnership with the St Hilda’s Foundation Work Grants.
The St Hilda Foundation Work Grants offer a unique avenue for students to develop their relationship and real-world skills through practical and professional experience which aims to empower young women to become exceptional citizens and leaders.
Alder’s contribution to the St Hilda Foundation Work Grants will roll out in Term 4 in 2025 adding a diverse experience for students interested in pursuing a career in engineering, architecture, and the built environment.
Alder Constructions CEO Dean Cheffers says “Sponsoring the St Hilda’s Foundation and supporting the Foundation’s endeavour to bring life-changing opportunities to young women, their families and the community is an opportunity Alder is excited to be a part of”.
“Partnering with the St Hilda’s Foundation and St Hilda’s Foundation Work Grants enables Alder to showcase a number of careers on offer in the construction industry that go beyond the traditional trades and professions,” says Mr Cheffers.
“Alder offers the unique experience of delivering both commercial construction and civil infrastructure projects combining design, construction and engineering under one roof allowing students to experience the full spectrum of opportunities within the industry.”
Alder has a long history of investing in the next generation of construction workers with their established Building Blocks program supported by Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ). The program aims to introduce students to construction and helps to facilitate defined pathways for students to pursue a career in construction.
Always seeking opportunities to highlight the construction industry as a rewarding career option, the Alder team initiated an interactive site experience for Year 12 engineering students during the construction and redevelopment of St Hilda’s $11 million Performing Arts Facility, The Granowski Building.
“It was such a great opportunity for students to witness live construction activity and to gain an understanding of the logistics and engineering that goes into the built environment,” says Mr Cheffers.
“In addition, Alder’s Construction Manager and Brand and Communications Manager were on hand to talk to the students during the tour in order to learn more about what the students were interested in and to provide advice about the construction industry and career pathways available.”
The St Hilda’s Foundation Work Grants are available to students entering Year 11 and are made possible by St Hilda’s Foundation in partnership with a variety of businesses which to date have included News Corp, the Gold Coast Suns, Qscan Radiology, Nulon Racing, and Triple Eight Engineering.
Each grant provides the recipient with the opportunity to complete a two-week experiential opportunity which enables students to gain valuable experience and assist with their relationship and application with the corresponding business after their graduation.
