Kool Beanz Academy pioneers new standards for childcare
A state-of-the-art integrated childcare facility has opened its doors at the home of the Gold Coast SUNS in Carrara offering enrolments for over 200 children, 30 of which are reserved for children with additional needs.
The $12 million project built by Alder Constructions is the result of a partnership between Kool Beanz Academy, The Gold Coast SUNS and Autism QLD and aims to redefine childcare by offering inclusive care for children while housing Autism QLD onsite.
Alder Constructions General Manager Dean Cheffers says his team are proud to be instrumental in bringing the integral project to life.
“The Kool Beanz SUNS Academy is unlike any other childcare centre in Australia offering a lush natural playground for children to engage with while providing a play-based learning environment that appeals to all the senses and stimulates a wholesome learning experience,” says Mr Cheffers.
“It has been an honour to be involved in this partnership and I hope this centre inspires further developments of its kind where a focus is placed on not only providing inspired learning spaces for children but access to such facilities for children of all needs and abilities.”
Founder and owner of Kool Beanz Academy, Bruce Coulson drew on his 16 years of experience in the childcare industry which motivated him to develop the inclusive centre.
For the first time on the Gold Coast, families of children with additional needs such as autism, will have the support needed, helping to ease the difficulties they may be experiencing in the family home.
The centre which has a total of 13 classrooms is the first of its kind with elevated facilities that focus on immersing children in a natural play environment including a lush outdoor play area filled with more than 150 trees, 1200 shrubs and a walk-through aviary filled with chirping birds.
The outdoor area is equipped with its own running creek prime for water play, along with chicken coop. Vegetable gardens line the centre providing a working example of sustainable living while doubling as a seasonal food source for the children’s healthy food menus.
Indoors the experience continues with an art room, a library, a lego room and master chef kitchen ready to explore while a large auditorium provides the perfect place for stage performances, presentations and graduations allowing families to be involved in the most important events of their children’s early years.
