Project Details

Alder Constructions were engaged by the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing for the repairs and resurfacing of the Natural Bridge Cave Walking Track Circuit (approximately 770 metres) in the Springbrook National Park which included the partial asphalt pavement replacement, resurfacing and patching of the walking track.

The Natural Bridge Cave Walking Track is frequented by many visitors and was identified as a key tourist attraction during the Commonwealth Games that were held on the Gold Coast. Subsequently the works were completed within a minimum timeframe, and with strict adherence to the required deadline that required works to be completed in advance of the Games.

This Project involved many challenges. Due to the narrow walking track (average width 1.2m) and numerous stairways, the physical labour component of the works was of a very high intensity and available plant was limited to a mini excavator, mechanical wheelbarrow and stair climber trolleys.

Work Undertaken

Some of the key components of this project were:
  • Replacement of walking track subgrade (60 tonnes)
  • Installation of a 60m length ‘toe stone’ kerbing
  • Placement of cold mix asphalt overlay (98 tonnes)
