Alder were engaged by Village Roadshow Theme Parks to undertake the total demolition and refurbishment of the iconic Rick’s Cafe at Movie World Theme Park (Stage 1). Upon completion of Stage 1, Alder were then responsible to demolish and refurbish the adjacent Production Kitchen (Stage 2).

Rick’s Cafe, being the main food hall within Movie World, comprises of an entry foyer / POS station, severy/buffet area, adjoining dining room, male and female amenities and back of house area where the food is prepared and stored. The Production Kitchen consists of a dedicated food preparation area that services internal staff members as well as the theme parks various food outlets.

Alder, through a dedicated team effort, are proud of the fact that we were able to deliver the project on time in accordance with the original compressed Contract programme. This was achieved even though extensive structural changes were needed that didn’t form part of the original design and additional scope was added by the Client during the construction period.

Work Undertaken

  • Bain-maries, cold servery and chilled dessert bar counters that include stone bench tops, 2-pac façades and glass sneeze guards
  • New amenities facilities including PWD room
  • Extensive epoxy floor coating works to back of house areas
  • Wall and floor tiling finishing works that included the use of themed coloured tiles & glass mosaics to achieve the intricate and unique floor design
  • New air handling services and stainless steel food catering fit out equipment including gas, water and electrical services to back of house area
  • New floor coverings and general theming to the dining area
  • Feature timber framed and patterned glass doors and internal screens
  • Changes to the buildings superstructure identified following completion of the demolition works
