Gold Coast City Council engaged Alder Constructions to conserve the 113 year old ex-railway bridge and associated civil infrastructure at Currumbin. The renewed bridge is wider than the existing bridge and the heritage of the existing structure was retained. Environmental considerations were a high priority.
In order to save costs for the Client, Alder Constructions designed and constructed a specially designed hydraulic scissor lift that was fixed to a floating barge. The lifting device was used to float and place some of the precast concrete deck units onto the bridge piers near the centre of the creek.
