The York Prepares for Construction
Beenleigh is set for an almost $40m economic and jobs boom with construction of a new mixed-use precinct at 96-98 York Street about to begin.
With investLogan and Alder Developments receiving development approval from the State Government and local Council, Alder Constructions are set to commence on site in April.
The York development will feature a facelift to John Lane, between John and George Streets, plus the construction of a new seven-storey commercial office building.
The 4,750 sqm of commercial space, will include 156 sqm of retail, 452 sqm of SOHO and 4,004 sqm of office, as well as two levels of underground car parking with 10 short term car parks for public use. The York will also combine premium work space with ‘Small Office, Home Office’ (SOHO) opportunities and pedestrian access to John Lane that may include new pavements, lighting, public art and WiFi.
The built form of the development will pay tribute to Beenleigh’s rich history, urban structure and rural setting in both building form, colour and materials. The development is designed to provide a modern interpretation of the distinctive character of Beenleigh’s historic buildings with elements like the ‘winter‐gardens’ protecting the street like an awning, whilst enabling passive surveillance of the active spaces and streetscape.
The first new commercial office building to be constructed in Beenleigh in the last decade, the multi-million dollar project is expected to bring 140 new full-time jobs and 100 construction jobs to the area.
