Project Details

This project featured the construction of the sensitive urban water design ’treatment train’, designed to filter stormwater run-off in the Helensvale catchment prior to being released into the Coombabah Wetlands.

The project was successfully executed in a popular public thoroughfare and adjacent residential area, requiring noise and dust mitigation measures as well as appropriate pedestrian diversions where required. Stringent environmental management and controls were implemented to protect existing vegetation and adjacent wetland areas. The works were completed ahead of program and under budget.

Scope of Works

  • Selective clearing of existing native vegetation.
  • Two bio-retention basins constructed to the FAWB guidelines including two concrete weir structures. This is the first bio-retention basin built to these high standards in the South East Queensland region.
  • One sediment pond.
  • Upgraded rock swale drain through existing sensitive wetlands.
  • Extensive turfed flow paths throughout the site.
  • 300 lineal metres of shared bicycle / pedestrian pathways.
  • The construction of three timber bridges.
  • Over 500,000 native plantings.
  • 350 lin metres of stormwater drainage was laid as well as associated pits and structures.
  • 200m² of rock stone pitching designed as a scour protection mechanism.
